Speaking to the media on Wednesday, National Assembly Member Jamshed Dasti said that the investigation into the Qandeel Baloch murder case was a conspiracy to malign Mufti Qavi.

Offering his support to Qavi, who is a suspect in the murder case of Qandeel Baloch, Dasti said that there is no evidence against him and said that he will raise the issue in NA.

He said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was using Punjab Police to trap Qavi, who had been included in the case as a suspect after a request from Qandeel’s father.

Last year in July, Qandeel Baloch was strangled by her brother in the name of honour, an event in which, her father suspected, Qavi had a role to play.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, Mufti Qavi underwent a polygraph test in Lahore at the Punjab Science Forensic Agency. The report of the arrest is yet to come.

Qavi is now in a four-day police remand after he was discharged from the Institute of Cardiology in Multan on Tuesday. He would be presented in the sessions court on Friday.

Judicial magistrate Mohammad Pervez had issued the warrants after investigation officer Noor Akbar requested the court to do so on the grounds that the cleric was not cooperating with the police.

He was arrested on October 18.
