RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi appeared before court on Tuesday for another hearing of the ephedrine case.

Abbasi, his brother Basit and six other accused appeared at the Control of Narcotic Substances (CNS) court, with Judge Raza Pervez Akhtar hearing their case.

During the hearing, the prosecution’s last witness, Imtiaz Hussain Shah, was cross-examined by the defence counsel.

Abbasi is charged with the illegal use of controlled chemical ephedrine, of which he obtained 500 kilogrammes allegedly for his company Gray Pharmaceuticals in 2010. Officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) claim that Abbasi sold the substance to narcotics smugglers who used it to produce illegal drugs.

ANF registered a case against Abbasi and his accomplices under various sections of the CNS Act in 2012. They were indicted by the CNS court in 2014.

Since the last witness has recorded his statement, the case is expected to be finished soon.
