KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that the Education Department is rehabilitating and strengthening teachers training institutions and training of elementary teachers across Sindh, in assistance with the Canadian government, at a total cost of Rs1301.77 million.
This he said as a chief guest in an inaugurating ceremony of Professional Development Centre (PDC) at Darsano Chhana Government Elementary College of Education in district Malir here on Monday. On this occasion, Canadian High Commissioner Perry J Calderwood and Education Schools Secretary Iqbal Hussain Durrani and other officials were also present.
The minister said that unless we made the teachers training institutions up to the mark, we could not produce better teachers. “Quality education is a must for better results,” he added.
He said that video conferencing facilities had also been provided to certain centres. He added that it was a matter of satisfaction that so far 19,513 primary teachers and 8,157 junior school teachers had been trained in these institutions.
While speaking on the occasion, Canadian high commissioner said that the objectives of the project were to provide in-service and pre-service training and scholarship to the teachers, and repairing, renovation and rehabilitation of the centres and up-gradation of computer labs as well.
