Siraj urges NAB chief for across the board accountability

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq on Monday called upon the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman to dig out the files of around one 150 mega corruption cases and bring the culprits to the dock without further delay.

Addressing the JI central leadership at Mansoora, Siraj said that the government’s failure to initiate accountability process of other people named in the Panama Leaks indicated that it did not want to continue the accountability process.

The meeting, attended by the JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch, deputy chiefs and deputy secretaries general, resolved to intensify their movement for the accountability of corrupt elements.

Sirajul Haq said that on one hand, the country was burdened with huge foreign debt and the general public was facing crippling price spiral, while on the other hand, the corrupt elements were given free hand to plunder public money.

Speaking ahead of US State Secretary Rex Tillerson’s visit to the country, Siraj demanded of the government to take up the issue of Aafia Siddiqui with the US secretary and press the US government for her immediate release.  Siraj claimed said that the hearts of the Pakistanis throbbed with Dr Aafia’s heart, adding money spent on Pakistan is no good until the US releases Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

The JI chief said that Pakistan had freed an American-Canadian couple in a successful operation but even this goodwill gesture was not enough for the Americans.
