Qandeel murder case: Mufti Qavi’s remand in police custody extended

A lower court in Multan on Monday extended the remand of Mufti Abdul Qavi in police custody.

The cleric was arrested last week in connection with the social media sensation Qandeel Baloch murder case.

Judicial Magistrate Pervaiz Khan granted a four-day extension in the remand after recording Qavi’s statement in an ambulance.

The police failed to produce the cleric before the magistrate and instead presented a medical report of the accused who had complained of chest pain after he was remanded into police custody.

The magistrate, however, rejected the report and ordered Inquiry Officer Asif Shahzad to produce the accused within an hour.

The police complied with the court’s orders and brought the accused to the court in an ambulance under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Cantonment Dr Fahad.

After recording the statement, Qavi was again shifted to Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology, where he is being held under observation.

The cleric was arrested on October 18 on the highway from Multan to Jhang after his application for an extension in pre-arrest bail was rejected. Subsequently, he was admitted to the cardio hospital after he complained of a cardiac problem.
