Nawaz stops over in Jeddah before arriving in Pakistan

LONDON: After another shuffle in former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s travel plans, Nawaz reached Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from London and will now make his way to Pakistan in a couple of days after staying in the kingdom, reports confirmed on Monday.

The change in plans was revealed on Sunday after the ousted premier’s visa for travel to Saudi Arabia arrived.

As per reports, Sharif’s mother is currently in Jeddah and Nawaz is expected to accompany his mother for Umrah, following which he is expected to travel to Islamabad.

Reports confirm that the visit to Saudi Arabia is completely a private one with no official engagements scheduled.

Upon his arrival in Jeddah, Nawaz was received by Saudi officials and members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz at the airport following which he proceeded to his younger son Hussain’s residence. He is later expected to proceed to Mecca where he will be accompanied by his mother for Umrah.

According to earlier reports, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who was set to return to Pakistan from London on October 21, was later expected to return on Oct 23, as per the revised schedule.

On October 4, Nawaz reached London to spend time with his wife Kulsoom, who is undergoing treatment for throat cancer.

In the meantime, Nawaz Sharif missed three hearings of the corruption references against him in an accountability court.
