Mashal Khan murder case: ATC dismisses bail plea of 53 suspects

ABBOTTABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday dismissed bail petitions of 53 suspects in Mashal Khan murder case.

Earlier, ATC judge Fazal Subhan had reserved a judgment on the applications of the suspects after hearing the arguments of their counsel and public prosecutor.

The court is conducting a trial in the case related to the murder of Abdul Wali Khan University student Mashal Khan at Haripur Central Prison.

The court has recorded the testimonies of 39 prosecution witnesses so far, including two judicial magistrates. Last week, a prime witness in Mashal Khan murder case backtracked on his statement.

On Sept 19, the court had indicted 66 suspects on murder and terrorism-related charges.

Mashal Khan was beaten and shot to death on April 13 by a mob set off by rumours that Mashal had committed blasphemy. However, according to JIT constituted in the case, the murder was pre-planned with university administration involved in it.
