KMC apologises for refusing to send transgender’s body to morgue

Khyber Medical College (KMC) Peshawar on Monday apologised for refusing to store the body of a transgender in cold storage. The decomposing body was found last week in Darmangi area of the provincial metropolis.

Per details, the KMC sent a letter to the provincial health department which said that the body was badly decomposed due to which it could not be stored in the morgue due to technical reasons.

“The putrefaction process makes a dead body unfit for storage in the freezer,” the letter stated. It further stated that, “This was the only reason for the refusal and no other motive was involved.”

Earlier, KMC higher ups had ordered the officials concerned to submit a reply in this regard after the news was shared in the local media.

It is important to mention here that the morgue at the KMC is the only such facility in the entire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province which has a modern cold storage.
