PESHAWAR: In a low-key development on Sunday in Peshawar, Pir Sayed Mastaan Shah’s son Sayed Sajjad Shah joined the Awami National Party (ANP) along with his family and a coterie of followers.

ANP chief Asfandyar Wali met the religious personality and welcomed him in the party.

He presented them with ANP-themed scarf as well as party’s traditional red caps.

Later, ANP chief, Sajjad Shah, party’s central general secretary Mian Iftikhar and others prayed together.

Meanwhile, ANP Central General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain also welcomed the move, saying unity between Pashtuns is crucial in order to battle various problems and challenges.

He also congratulated the contingent upon joining the party and welcomed them into the party fold.

During his speech, he said that religious and political leadership will continue working for the interests of Pashtuns.

“A deeply religious family’s inclusion within the ranks of ANP is a highly encouraging and positive omen,” he said.

He said ANP continues to follow Bacha Khan’s non-violent philosophy, adding that the place where Bacha Khan spread his peaceful message has now been marred with difficulties because people have forgotten his ideology.

He asked for unity between Pashtuns, saying it was the need of the hour and it was impossible to prosper without it.

Besides party chief and Mian Iftikhar, other party leaders were also in attendance.
