On Monday, Wildlife Department Director Muhammad Hussain Gashgori informed that two members of a gang involved in selling tortoise meat to Chinese nationals were taken into custody, after being found shooting tortoises in Saraya Sidhoo. 50kg of meat was recovered from them.

According to the director, the gang has been carrying out the trade for the last six months and have been hunting the animal in various areas of Punjab. They are currently in the custody of the department of Wildlife and will be produced before a magistrate.

“The sale and hunting of tortoises is banned by the Punjab government and strict action will be taken against the culprits,” he added.

The officials are searching for the other members of the gang.
