KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) steward Muhammad Shoaib, who was caught red-handed while smuggling, has been set free by the enquiry committee after being fined only Rs20,000.

A case was lodged against Shoaib in 2014 when he was caught smuggling 41 valuable cellular phones and GBP 5,000. The enquiry committee had recommended a meagre fine for the accused, and to cancel his three increments.

On the other hand, customs sources have said that Muhammad Shoaib should have been jailed after termination in accordance with the department rules.
