LAHORE: Award nights are always a fashionable affair and just like any other, the second Q Mobile Hum Style Awards 2017 were the same. As the celebrities made their way to the red carpet,  the crowd was buzzing with excitement as everyone waited with baited breath to get a glimpse of their favourite celebrities and a chance to get a picture with them.

The show kick-started with a power packed performance by one of the main hosts for the evening Saba Qamar. The other two hosts included Farhan Saeed and Ali Kazmi. Much to the disappointment of the audience, the event was lacking the ability to keep them hooked with tasteless jokes bashing other actors and other unnecessary shenanigans. With a ‘Retro Classy’ theme, the event failed to live up to the expectations, apart from the stage that was set up beautifully. Having said that, there were performances that kept the audience glued to their seats, especially the dance-off between Syra Shahroz and Asim Azhar. Another performance that was timed perfectly was that of Ahsan Khan and Polish choreographer Ilona Beiker.

In between the performances, we had celebrities come up on stage to give and receive awards for their respective categories. Amidst all the glitz and glamour that went down last night, the essence of the awards show is being lost in between just like fashion weeks.

There were some well-deserved awards and some categories picked a winner that focused on the talent of the nominees, rather than just their experience in the industry.

Keeping our spirits up, we decided to stay for the entire show and had the chance of witnessing two more performances that got us singing. One was the QMobile Style Icon Atif Aslam performing side by side with Quratulain Baloch, as the two paid tributes to the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen. The second one being the finale performance by the host Farhan Saeed and Asim Azhar, specially penned down for the evening for a brighter and successful Pakistan.

The finale was definitely a starry performance as all the stars were on stage together to celebrate the successful night. We can’t say that it sets a bar for award nights, but one can definitely say that if they focused more on highlighting the talent in the progressing industry and supporting each other in their respective fields, it wouldn’t have been so bad. Having said that, the audience thoroughly enjoyed the performances and the glamorous red carpet. Here is to more starry nights and fabulous performances. Kudos to the effort put in by the entire team for putting up an entire show for their viewers.
