LAHORE: Health Managers Association Punjab General Secretary Dr Haq Nawaz Bharwana has alleged that conspiracies were being hatched to defame the medical profession and health department.

Addressing the emergent meeting of the association here on Sunday, Dr Haq Nawaz Bharwana said that in the recent few months, some elements have actively blamed the medical profession and the health department, trying to make the good efforts of the department and medical profession controversial.

“They are trying to provoke the patients and their attendants over minor things and bringing it to public attention, to undermine the rapidly progressing health department activities.”

Dr Bharwana said that the increasing load on tertiary healthcare facilities demand that the patients and their attendants should also understand how to utilise and get the benefit of services offered in tertiary care hospital.

He said that the recent incident of Ganga Ram was also exploited by few, as the facts were not properly exposed. The fact is that the patient went to the canteen at its own, without the consent and advice of consultants, and thus suffered. Bharwana continued that the staff has to bear the consequences of such an incident.

Dr Bharwana said that since last one and half year, the progress of Specialized Healthcare Department can’t be matched with the previous tenures.

He added that the construction of a 385-bed surgical tower Mayo Hospital, Lahore, state of the art 100-bed Punjab Addiction Treatment Hospital, Lahore, newly constructed OPD of Services Hospital, new block of Children Hospital, Lahore, cardiology hospitals of Faisalabad, Wazirabad and Rawalpindi, burn units of Jinnah Hospital and Bahawalpur Hospital, emergency department and burn unit of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital, Gujrat, are unbeatable examples of progress in Specialized Health Care and Medical Education Department.

To achieve the maximum benefits from these newly constructed hospital and newly established facilities, public awareness is of need of the time, he said. This awareness can be attained by joint adventures doctors, media, public representatives and the public itself.

Dr Bharwana said that emergency department of Ganga Ram is one of the best emergency centres, where doctors, nurses and medicines are available 24 hours, and facilities are revamped and upgraded recently.
