Fire in Lahore furniture market destroys number of shops

LAHORE: At least a dozen furniture shops, worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes Friday night when a fire broke out in a furniture market near Lahore’s Kharak Nala area, according to reports.

The fire spread rapidly to nearby buildings in the congested locality; however, almost nine fire tenders took part in the operation and finally managed to put out the blaze, according to rescue sources.

No casualty was reported in the incident.

According to the initial investigation, the fire was caused by short-circuiting.

Further investigation is underway.
