PM departs for Turkey to represent Pak at D-8 summit

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi left for Turkey on Thursday to represent Pakistan at D-8 summit scheduled to be held in Istanbul on Friday.

This is the ninth summit of eight developing countries including Pakistan, Turkey, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, and Nigeria.

Pakistan is the current chair of the D-8, and it has been chairing the summit beyond the normal period of two years.

During the event, PM Abbasi will hand over the chairmanship of the D-8 Summit to Turkey. The Istanbul Summit is expected to adopt a declaration and a plan of action.

Major areas of cooperation in D-8 Charter are industry, agriculture and food security, energy, trade, transportation, and tourism.

During his visit, PM Abbasi is also expected to interact with the leaders of D-8 member states on the sidelines of the summit.

  1. The above cited narrative regarding holding 9th Summit of 8 developing countries do not mention even slightly the past a decade achievement of such Forum. I am afraid there would be hardly any achievement worth mentioning from economic point of view. It seem it merely get together of these 8 countries who have hardly any thing to share on this high level forum. All that needed is interaction of these countries individually through their experts /professionals / business oriented SMEs to achieve some tangible / productive results of economic interest of each country. Time and energy of Head Of STATES is too precious to pay attention on matters of very urgent nature, apart from straining already scarce financial resources of these countries.
