Need for Pakistan, US to work jointly to achieve strategic goals: Aizaz

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry called on US Senator Elizabeth Warren at Capitol Hill on Wednesday and apprised her of Pakistan’s successes in the war against terror.

He further briefed senator Warren, who is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on Pakistan’s perspective on the situation in South Asia, including Afghanistan.

Ambassador Chaudhry reiterated the importance of the two countries’ working together to achieve their common strategic and regional objectives.

Chaudhry said that peace and stability in Afghanistan were vital for Pakistan’s own national interests. He said that Pakistan believed this would only be possible through a political process owned and led by Afghans themselves.

The ambassador also said that Pakistan had made headway in the fight against terrorism by leading comprehensive and indiscriminate operations against militants, as a result of which, Pakistan’s border regions had been cleared of terrorist groups. He added that Pakistan was ready to work with Afghanistan to effectively manage the two countries’ border and prevent illegal movements.

Senator Warren thanked the Pakistani ambassador for his briefing and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
