Lyari gang war commander killed in encounter with Rangers

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers on Thursday claimed to have killed a Lyari gang war Malir leader Ghafoor alias Chotu, during an encounter in Malir’s Murad Memon Goth.

On an intelligence tip-off that suspected terrorists were hiding in Malir’s Murad Memon Goth, the Rangers team conducted a raid in the area. Seeing Rangers, the accused opened fire on them. In the retaliatory firing, a Lyari gang war Malir leader Ghafoor alias Chotu, was killed on the spot. However,  two of his accomplices managed to flee during the encounter.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the deceased accused was also wanted by police in several heinous crimes including, target killing, extortions, drug peddling, kidnapping for ransom and cracker attacks on law enforcement agencies.

The raiding team also recovered one SMG with five rounds, one 9MM pistol with ten rounds and one hand grenade from the spot.

The body was later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities.
