PM wants normal judicial system to be extended to tribal areas

ISLAMABAD: National Implementation Committee on FATA has directed the Law Ministry to initiate legal and administrative measures to extend the normal judicial system to tribal areas.

A meeting headed by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met the committee members in Islamabad.  The committee carried out an in-depth review of the issues raised and concluded that there was widespread support for the merger of FATA with KP.

The committee also reviewed the progress of legal reforms and noted that a bill to extend the jurisdiction of the High Court and the Supreme Court to FATA has already been tabled in the National Assembly.

The committee members directed the law minister to expedite the passage of the bill through both houses of the Parliament.

The committee also directed the finance minister to seek the endorsement of the National Finance Commission to the proposal to allocate a share from the divisible pool for FATA for the next 10 years.

The committee said that the task of repatriation of TDPs and their rehabilitation has been completed and law enforcement and security personnel are being deployed.

The committee reiterated its commitment to continue working for the implementation of the decision of the federal cabinet.
