LAHORE: Veteran politician and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Zulfiqar Ali Khosa is keen on joining the PPP on the invitation that had been extended by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Zardari went to Khosa’s Gulberg residence on Tuesday to formally invite him to join the party.

Addressing the media following the meeting, the two leaders hinted at joining hands on the political front.

Khosa expressed gratitude to Zardari for extending an invitation to him to join the PPP but sought time for consultations before accepting the invitation. “I have sought time for consultation with close aides but surely I will not disappoint Asif Ali Zardari whatever decision I make,” he said, hinting that the alliance is a policy under consideration.

“We share common values and traditions and hopefully we will work together for country’s betterment”, Khosa further added.

Responding to Khosa’s comment, Zardari stated that his party was willing to offer Khosa whatever he asked for in the PPP.

He also showed interest in collaborating with the veteran leader in pulling Pakistan out of a number of problems that the country is confronted with.

Responding to a question, Zardari dismissed the possibility of a formation of a national government after dismantling the PML-N government, recalling that a national government had been formed in 2002 by Musharraf but had failed to achieve the desired results.

Zardari raised concerns over the great loss incurred to the country by the present government and feared that a lot of effort will have to go into making up for this damage.

To another question, Zardari stated that he was not trying to dismantle the PML-N as it was already on the verge of collapse, adding that he had cooperated with the PML-N in the past to save the democratic system in the country as opposed to getting factory permits in the country.

Earlier during the day, while talking to the provincial ticket holders at the Bilawal House, Zardari stated that Nawaz Sharif was playing a dangerous game which may lead the country into a political crisis.

Zardari also warned Sharif that the outcome of a confrontation with the state institutions would prove disastrous. He also raised his concerns over what he termed as the deteriorating economic situation in the country.

  1. Typical of a migratory bird, Khosa is shifting his habitat. Instead, he should have acted as a khaleefa around a ring to guide young wrestlers try new tricks. At his age, Khosa would be more of a parasite than an asset.
