ISLAMABAD: World Girl Child Day was commemorated here on Tuesday at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) to support young girls in political, economic and social spaces by empowering them in different fields of life.
The event was organised by Ministry of Human Rights in collaboration with civil society organisations.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister for Human Rights Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar said that there should be primary and middle schools for girls in every village, while a high school for girls should be constructed in each union council to ensure girls received equal education opportunities.
Tarar said that, “Girls education is our priority and we advocate it to protect their rights and give them awareness to live a respectable life in society.” Pakistanis girls have been known for their talent but the existing system created hindrances in their way.
He further said that gender equality was essential for development of the country, while adding that Pakistan had been at the forefront of nations that advocated child rights. Tarar said that the government was carrying forward an agenda for substantial reforms, which would have a better impact on the lives of girls.
The minister further said that according to Islamic teaching, people should ensure proper care, protection and welfare of girls, while adding that in the light of those teachings, the society should show commitment to provide a congenial environment to girls where they could enjoy protection from all forms of discrimination and violence.
