ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Babar Awan on Tuesday ruled out disqualification of party Chairman Imran Khan on a petition filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi seeking disqualification of the opposition party head over the non-disclosure of assets, the existence of offshore companies, as well as being a foreign-aided party.
Talking to journalists outside the Supreme Court, he said that the people would themselves reach Islamabad and nobody can stop them if the institutions are attacked again. “The government is an ‘enemy’ of ‘national’ institutions,” he claimed.
On Monday, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi also claimed that Imran would not be disqualified and he would appear before the Election Commission whenever he deems fit to appear. “We will organise a mass gathering in Islamabad if someone impedes the process of accountability,” he said.
After the court appearance, Babar Awan said that the government was taking loans after selling assets of Pakistan. He said that the government would leave the country in extreme poverty. “These people are ruining Pakistan,” he said.
Babar said that the ruling party has taken loans for themselves but in the name of the country. He appealed to the Accountability Court to decide and create a standard operating procedure (SOP) and devise ways and means to bring back the plundered money from the looters.
