Festival announced to celebrate heritage of Pakistan

LAHORE: A 2-day festival “Heritage Now” has been announced which will commence on October 21, in order to celebrate and reflect upon the cultural heritage of Pakistan. The venue of the festival Alhamra, Mall Road, and is a collaboration between the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Government of Pakistan National History & Literary Heritage Division, British Council, Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), French Embassy in Pakistan and UNESCO.

The festival will bring together professionals from Pakistan and various other countries to discuss pressing issues facing the museums and heritage sector of Pakistan, through conversations, performances and art. It will also include panel discussions, academic paper presentations, exhibitions, crafts and performances, and art-based activities for children.

The festival “Heritage Now” is supported by the US Embassy in Pakistan, European Union, University of the Punjab, Alhamra Arts Council Lahore, Luxus Grand Hotel, Alliance française Lahore and AFD. Its curating partners include ASSITEJ Pakistan, Morango, SAMAAJ, Social Innovation Lab and The Little Art.

Speaking about the festival, WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari said that this is an interesting activity and will bring together professionals in heritage and culture from all over the world and Pakistan. It will surely be a great source of information for the students and heritage lovers and experts, he said. WCLA Media & Marketing Deputy Director Tania Qureshi said that the festival is an interesting event and a learning platform for all of us. International and national experts will be discussing the heritage and culture, he said. Registration for this event can be made online; also anybody coming to the venue can register on spot, she added.
