PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak on Tuesday approved the 50 per cent release of the tobacco development cess for the relevant districts and directed officials concerned to release the remaining amount on need basis. The matter will be taken before the provincial cabinet for final approval.
The CM directed the officials concerned for the efficient utilisation of tobacco development cess in different constituencies under the law.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of the committee for the tobacco development cess utilisation at the CM Secretariat Peshawar. Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Mian Jamsheddin, Members of Provincial Assemblies Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha and Muhammad Arif also attended the meeting.
The meeting was briefed about the different rates of tobacco, the legal position for the use of tobacco development cess, and the distribution formula for different constituencies of the relevant districts.
The meeting was also briefed about the distribution and use of resources of the tobacco development cess under the annual development programme. In the annual development programme for 2017-18, allocations of Rs 100 million have been made in this connection.
