Alleged criminal killed in police encounter, accomplice flees

KARACHI: A suspected target killer was killed and another injured in an encounter with the police in Korangi area of the metropolis early on Tuesday.

According to reports, a Special Investigation Unit police team conducted a raid on a house where suspected target killer Abid, alias Chotu, and his accomplice were hiding. On their approach, the suspects opened fire on the police, to which the police responded. During the exchange, Abid suffered severe bullet injuries and was killed on the spot while his accomplice managed to flee from the scene.

According to the police, the deceased was involved in target killing of police personnel.

The body of the deceased was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.

Separately, a patrolling police team tried to stop two suspected criminals riding a motorcycle in Korangi’s Muhammad Khan Goth but the suspects refused to stop. The police then opened fire on them, causing the two suspects to be injured. The two suspects were identified as Yasir, 24, and Waqas, 22, and were shifted to JPMC for treatment.
