Suspected Karachi ‘knife-attacker’ arrested from Punjab

LAHORE: In a joint police operation by Sindh and Punjab police, the alleged ‘knife-attacker’ who had injured various women in Karachi has reportedly been nabbed from Mandi Bahauddin in Punjab.

Senior police officials say that they are positive that the arrested suspect Waseem is the Karachi knife-attacker, and it will be ascertained once further interrogation takes place. The officials added that further investigation will take place in Karachi when the suspect will be moved there.

Earlier on Friday, the alleged accomplice of the knife attacker named Mohammad Shahzad was remanded into police custody after the police said that they needed the suspect’s custody for further interrogation to trace the main suspect. Shahzad was arrested on Thursday and a knife was also recovered from his possession.

The spree of knife-attacks started last month when a bike-rider wearing a helmet started injuring females in Karachi, primarily in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of the metropolis, using a sharp object. As many as 15 women have fell victims of such attacks so far, questioning the efficiency of the police.

Police had also released suspect’s details saying he is a “thin man, aged 20-29 and he appears to be 5 feet 7-9 inches tall and usually rides a red motorcycle.”

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah assured on Sunday that the ‘knife attacker’—who has injured more than ten women in street stabbing incidents—would soon be caught.

It should be reported that there have been no such attacks for the past ten days and the chief minister has assured the people of his arrest soon.

According to details, the first street stabbing case was reported in Karachi on September 25 and the last such reported crime incident was reported on October 5.
