FIR of Model Town incident was also registered in the same police station

LAHORE: A fire erupted at Faisal Town Police Station in the wee hours on Thursday, destroying valuables worth millions including official bullets, guns and wireless sets. The incident has raised many questions as the First Information Report (FIR) of the Model Town incident was also registered in the same police station.

According to the details, fire erupted in the police station reportedly due to electricity short circuit, turning the important files and official equipment into ashes. The rescue officials were successful in extinguishing the fire after an hour. Some high officials including the Model Town SP also reached the spot to take an overview of the situation.

The rescue teams had to face some difficulties in the operation as well because the Faisal Town Police Station is located in a very dilapidated building and it also created problems for police officials after the extinguishing of the fire. The office of muharrar (the administrator of police station) also got damaged badly, destroying the important record of the police station.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) has alleged that the incident of fire was a deliberate attempt from the government to destroy the record of Model Town incident in which 14 workers of PAT were killed, while over a hundred got injured. In a statement, the spokesperson of PAT said that they would register another FIR against the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif if any untoward incident happens with the record of Model Town case. “A team of PAT’s lawyers would visit the Faisal Town Police Station to inspect the post-fire situation,” the spokesperson said.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Model Town SP Hassnain Haider said that official weapons, bullets and wireless sets got damaged after the incident of fire. As per the preliminary investigation, fire took place because of the electricity short circuit as some electricity wires were hanging just over the police station, SP said. He further added that it is wrong to say that the documents related to the Model Town incident got damaged in the fire as all the record of the case has already been submitted in the court. However, a committee under his supervision has been formed to investigate the reasons of fire.

It is worth mentioning here that 21 influential people including then prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Khawaja Asif, Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah were named in the FIR of Model Town incident.
