140 negligent doctors suspended in Balochistan

Around 140 doctors were suspended in Balochistan for being negligent and absent. This was told by Balochistan Health Secretary Asmatullah Kakar on Thursday.

He said 180 doctors in various hospitals of the province were also issued show-cause notices. He said that most of the doctors were posted in remote areas of the province but they did not attend the office and remained absent for a long time and failed to turn up at their duties despite repeated notices.

Seven cases for termination of senior doctors and 45 cases of penalties have been forwarded to the chief secretary for further action, Kakar added. The provincial allocated more than Rs 25 billion for health sector for the ongoing financial year but it remained at the lowest ebb.

The provincial health department recently came under scrutiny after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) launched an investigation into the wrongful purchase of medicines worth millions of rupees. NAB has arrested several senior officials of the Health Department to probe charges of embezzlement in connection with the case.
