KARACHI: Book-reading is of vital importance for improving the academic standard. This was pointed out at the concluding session of the two- day book fair at the Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) here on Wednesday.

MAJU Academics Director Professor Dr Roshan Shaikh said that books are our best partners which provide us food for thoughts. If one does not read books it means he or she is living without knowledge, he remarked.

The book fair was organised at the campus under the auspices of the MAJU library department.

Dr Shaikh said that although Google, WhatsApp, Yahoo, Amazon, Youtube, Facebook, Computer and other tools of information technology share knowledge to change the world, top level writers always prefer to read the books. He added that it is a matter of satisfaction that the publishing houses are printing multi-topic quality books to meet the needs of the students, teachers and other professionals.

He asked the teachers to encourage book-reading habit among their students which are very necessary to improve the standard of education in the country.

He thanked the publishing houses for providing very useful books on all subjects to students on very special discounted prices during this book fair.

He later distributed shields and certificates among the participating publishers and organisers of the fair.
