SUKKUR: A four-day anti-polio campaign was launched here during which children under five years of age will be vaccinated across the district.
The leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah inaugurated the anti-polio drive by administering anti-polio drops to children at DHQ hospital here, said a handout on Monday.
Strict measures were put in place for the ongoing polio campaign which would continue till October 11.
Speaking on the occasion, Shah said that the health department, with the collaboration of its partner organisations, was trying to reach out to every child below the age of five. He hoped that the disease would be eradicated from the district soon.
He also said that the government was keen in the eradication of polio from the country because it had become a serious threat to the lives of children. He urged the district health officials to keep close watch over the activities of the vaccination team.
The Sukkur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Raheem Bux Maitlo, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Agha Samiullah and other officials were also present on the occasion.
