Mayor reviews revenue collection from markets, shops

Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar presided over a meeting of the Estate Department to review the revenue collection from markets and shops in the city.

A committee comprising Estate Committee Chairman Nasir Khan Taimuri, Finance Committee Chairman Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi, Advisor to Mayor Farhat Khan and an officer from anti-encroachments and estate departments, was constituted for construction and repairing works of the KMC markets and the fixation of the rents after dividing into zones, said a statement on Friday.

The mayor said modern age shopping centers and buildings could be constructed to make more space in these markets which provided clean environment and quality products sale.

He instructed the Estate Department director to prepare recommendations after consulting with the committee which has been formed in this connection.

A briefing was also given to the mayor about the shops of the KMC markets and their rents which were very low and the encroachments of the shops in the markets by the shopkeepers to sale their items and vegetable and fruits.

The mayor directed to strictly stop this and giving notice to the shopkeepers.

He said historical markets of KMC like Soldier Bazaar, Ranchoreline Market, Gole Market Nazimabad, PIDC Sultanabad Market had historical importance and provided facilities to citizens.

The meeting was attended by Nasir Khan Taimuri, Hassan Naqvi, Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi, Estate Abdul Qayyum, SM Shukaib, Riyaz Khatri and others.
