An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday declared former president Pervaiz Musharraf proclaimed offender in Judges’ Detention Case due to his continuous non-appearance before the court.

The court decided to postpone further proceeding against Musharraf till his appearance before the court. ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjamand took up the case against Pervaiz Musharraf for hearing. During hearing, the counsel for the accused Akhter Shah advocate contended that his client wanted to appear before the court, but he should be given appropriate security.

The court declared Pervaiz Musharraf proclaimed offender in the case and adjourned the case for indefinite period. The court also decided to confiscate the surety bonds submitted by the former president for his bail and also saved evidence in the case that would be utilised upon reopening of case.

It may be mentioned here that former president was facing terrorism charges in the case, which was based on a first information report (FIR) registered against him on August 11, 2009 by the Secretariat Police for detaining over 60 judges.

In June 2013, the court had indicted Musharraf in the Judges’ Detention Case. According to the charge sheet, the former president had imposed a state of emergency and detained the judges.
