ISLAMABAD: Three more petitions challenging Section-203 of the Electoral Reforms Bill 2017 were filed in the Supreme Court on Thursday, which has raised the number of such petitions to five.

Awami Raj Party’s MNA Jamshed Ahmed Dasti, Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party (PJDP) and a civilian Daud Gazanvi have requested the court to annul Section-203.

Jamshed Dasti said that the constitution was amended for a disqualified person; therefore, the court while exercising its authority, should annul the revision.

“National Assembly is busy in saving a thief, but the nation stands with the judiciary to get rid of these robbers,” he said.

The PJDP argued in their petition that the amendment was contrary to the constitution and should be annulled as according to it a disqualified person can give directions to elected representatives while being a party president.

Similar petitions have been filed earlier by Sheikh Rashid and Advocate Zulfiqar Bhatta.
