KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Thursday extended the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) remand of a suspect allegedly belonged to the militant Islamic State (IS) group, also called Daesh, in a case pertaining to the use of social media for promoting their agenda.
The FIA produced Khalilur Rehman before the South judicial magistrate after the expiry of his seven-day physical remand and requested for extension in remand. The investigating officer (IO) told the magistrate that Khalil had confessed that IS had a network in Sindh and his other accomplices were also involved in promoting its agenda.
The IO requested the magistrate to extend the physical remand of the suspect as his custody was further required to trace out the whereabouts of his absconding accomplices. While accepting the FIA’s request, the magistrate allowed the investigators to keep the accused, for seven more days for interrogation.
Earlier, the FIA counsel had submitted that the suspect was arrested by its counter-terrorism wing shortly after he arrived at Karachi Cantt Station on September 28 from interior Sindh. It added that IS flags, jihadi literature, a USB and other accessories were recovered from his possession.
