ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly has been without the security of paramilitary Rangers for the past 2 days, in the wake of the force’s controversial deployment on Monday at the Federal Judicial Complex.

According to media reports, currently only personnel of the Elite Force and police are stationed outside the parliament. Regarding this development, the speaker and deputy speaker have been informed by the security staff of the parliament.

Earlier on Monday, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal had said that he would resign, after him and other senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders were barred by Rangers officials from accompanying Nawaz Sharif in the hearing of his corruption reference.

Sources said that the Rangers would now be deployed on the written request of the government.
