Govt, opp hold consultations over appointment of new NAB chief

ISLAMABAD: Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah consulted Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Tuesday to discuss the appointment of the new to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman.

Following the meeting, Shah informed that the government opined Justice (retd) Rehmat Jafry, Justice (retd) Chaudhry Aijaz and Director General Intelligence Bureau Aftab Sultan as the possible choices for the post while the opposition was suggesting the names Justice (retd) Faqer Mohammad Khokhar, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal and former secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan Ishtiaque Ahmed Khan for the post.

Shah further apprised that the government, as well as the opposition, will hold consultations with respective party leaders before the new appointment is finalised.

Earlier on Tuesday, Shah condemned PTI for not suggesting a name for the post of chairman of the National Accountability Bureau despite him contacting the party thrice, adding that he could not wait further if they failed to respond in time.

Shah had apprised that  NAB chairman will be finalised before October 8.

Awami Muslim League Chairman Sheikh Rasheed said on Tuesday that former president Asif Zardari wants the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, caretaker government and election commission of his choice.
