ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League Chairman Sheikh Rasheed said on Tuesday that amendments to the Elections Bill 2017 have given an impression of ‘do what you want’ to accommodate one person.
He said that the disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is irreversible.
Rasheed went on to say that former president Asif Zardari wants the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, caretaker government and election commission of his choice.
The veteran politician predicted a tough competition between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in Punjab, adding that the PPP will not be a contender in the country’s biggest province.
The National Assembly Monday passed the Elections Bill 2017, paving way for ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif to regain presidentship of the ruling party.
A controversial clause in the bill which was met with heavy criticism by the opposition paves way for politicians disqualified from public position to lead political parties.
