NAB arrests Shalamar AC in Wagha Town embezzlement scam

LAHORE: In a case of Wagha Town mega embezzlement scam, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore arrested Assistant Commissioner (AC) Safdar Virk.

According to a NAB spokesman, the accused was involved in embezzling hefty amount up to millions of rupees in connivance with other staff; the nexus of culprits used to file bogus entries over the registry process.

So far, NAB Lahore has arrested five culprits including AC Safdar Virk, Fahad Saleem, Khalid Mehmood, Abdul Khaliq and Abid Ali Ansari.

An anonymous complainant floated an application comprising some details of alleged financial mismanagement being done by the officials of Wahga Town; subsequently, NAB Lahore launched an active inquiry into the complaint in April 2017 which was converted into investigation in September 2017 by NAB Lahore Director General Shahzad Saleem.

NAB Lahore took custody of the accused Safdar Virk, after finding solid evidence of his involvement in the scam.

He will be presented before Accountability Court on Wednesday (tomorrow), for acquiring of his physical remand.
