LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday declined verbal request of the counsel of heirs of Model Town incident victims, to make part of record, a summary which was approved by Punjab chief minister for appointment of Khawaja Haris, as counsel for government in its appeal against the order to make public the Model Town report.
The bench directed the counsel to file a written application for the purpose and then it would decide the issue. Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh headed the full bench with Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Qazi Amin Ahmad.
The full bench had sought the summary on Monday after a lawyer opposing the appeal objected to appearance of Advocate Khawaja Haris as a counsel for provincial government.
As the proceedings started, senior lawyer Khawaja Haris presented a summary approved by the Punjab chief minister for his appointment as a counsel to represent the government inthe case. However, submitting the documents in a sealed envelope, Khawaja Haris requested the court for not making it a part of record. To this, respondent’s (heirs of Model Town incident victims) counsel Khawaja Tariq Rahim objected and requested the court for making it a part of the record.
However, the bench declined the request and asked the counsel to file a written application for the purpose.
