Law amended to make one person president of party, says Khursheed Shah

ISLAMABAD: Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah Tuesday said that law had been amended to accommodate one person so that he can be made the president of a party. He said this while talking to media personnel in his chambers referring to ousted prime minister’s re-election as president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president following amendment to Elections Bill 2017.

Khursheed Shah congratulated Nawaz Sharif on being elected unopposed as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president in the intra-party elections.

“I have no objection over Nawaz being elected as PML-N president however; the way the constitution was amended for one person was not a right tradition,” he said.

Shah came down hard on the role of the Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf demanding probe into the role of the two parties in relation to the passing of the bill from the Senate.

Shah condemned PTI for not suggesting a name for the post of chairman of the National Accountability Bureau despite him contacting the party thrice, adding that he could not wait further if they failed to respond in time.

Shah apprised that  NAB chairman will be finalised before October 8, informing that he is due to meet Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi today in this regard.
