State-of-the-art central medical lab to be set up in Lahore

LAHORE: Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah has said that a state-of-the-art central laboratory for provision of high-standard diagnostic and treatment facilities to patients would be established in Lahore.

He said that services of international institutions would be hired and international tenders would soon be invited for the purpose.

The secretary said this during a meeting chaired by Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique to discuss the setting up of a central lab with the Ghazi group and EMSEY Hospital Ankara, Turkey.

The minister said that pathological services would be outsourced. However, in keeping with the policy of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif the facility would be provided to the poor and deserving patients free of cost.

He further said that different options were under consideration for establishing the laboratory, including construction of a purpose-built building for the laboratory at an open space and the employment of a building for the laboratory. Both options were being discussed and a decision would be taken according to the recommendations of technical experts, he said.

The secretary stated, while talking to Turkish experts, that the Punjab government would ensure a transparent process in determining the qualification of the firms and that international tenders would soon be invited for the awarding of the contract.
