ISLAMABAD: The International Day of Non-Violence was observed on Monday across the globe to promote non-violence through education and public awareness.
The day is observed annually on October 2, which coincides with the birthday of Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi, where people and organisations look for ways to stop incidents of violence across the globe. The UN General Assembly came up with a resolution in 2007 to establish the International Day of Non-Violence.
Many people, governments, and non-government organisations around the world observe the International Day of Non-Violence by holding different events and activities, which are further promoted through news media. Public lectures, seminars, discussions, and press conferences regarding non-violence are held on the international level, as people are called to adopt and practice the philosophy of non-violence.
The principle of non-violence, also known as non-violent resistance, had been known to reject the use of physical violence to achieve social or political change. Many groups throughout the world had used this method in social justice campaigns to make their voices heard.
The UN logo is often associated with marketing and promotional material for this event in many countries around the world.
