Citizens demand immediate repairs of govt allotted residences in capital

ISLAMABAD: Government employees residing in the federal capital urged the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to ensure maintenance of their officially allotted accommodations provided to junior level employees.

According to details, the residents said that the houses were constructed a long time ago, and due to lack of proper maintenance, the poor condition of these residential units was creating a number of problems for the residents.

Talking to reporters, a resident government employee, namely Mohsin Iftikhar, said, “Our applications should be considered on priority basis, as sewage, water leakage from roofs, broken floors and other problems have made our lives a living hell.” He complained that he had submitted an application with the department concerned for repair work at his resident, but the matter still stands unresolved even after the passage of two years.

When contacted, a Capital Development Authority official said on the condition of anonymity that lack of funds and non-availability of contractors was a major hindrance to execute the necessary maintenance work. He further said that the authority used the amount from its own exchequer as the grant released by the government for the maintenance of government buildings was insufficient to handle all complaints on a timely basis.
