Khwaja Asif speaks English the way he speaks Urdu. With a hearty Punjabi twang. He seems to be a well-read enough man and is refreshingly candid about thinking in Punjabi and speaking in other languages. He did so while struggling for a word in his talk at the Asia Society.
Perhaps he should take a leaf out of Sushma Swaraj’s book and speak in native tongue and hire an interpreter. Or perhaps he should stick to the twang. You decide.
The rumour mills were bound to be electrified. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif met Malik Riaz in a two-hour-long meeting. Officially, the meeting was only to inquire about the health of the former First Lady but those in the know say that it was an extension of an olive branch to Asif Ali Zardari.
Relations between Sharif and Zardari have been cold since a while now and it is reported that the former wants a quid pro quo. We’ll support (any way we can) the candidacy of Khurshid Shah as opposition leader and you can help us out in our rut.
Interesting times.
