MULTAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that they would challenge the Election Bill 2017 in the court.

He said that they will challenge the amendment in the bill, through which a disqualified prime minister could hold a post or lead any political party, in the court. While talking to media in Multan, he said that they will contact other political parties to change the leader of the opposition in National Assembly (NA) after Muharram.

He lashed out at Khawaja Asif and demanded that the government should remove Asif from the ministry over controversial remarks in New York. The PTI leader also hoped that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman will support PTI in their move to change the leader of the opposition in the NA. “Free and fair election in 2018 is our major demand,” he added.

The PTI leader’s comments come after the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) is all set to pass an amended Election Bill 2017 in the NA which will reinstate the disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif as the party’s president. Earlier, PML-N managed to get the amended bill passed by the Senate due to the absence of opposition members.
