NH&MP launches drive to install fire extinguishers in PSV

ISLAMABAD: On the directions of National Highways and Motorway (NH&MP) Police Inspector General Dr Syed Kalim Imam, N-5 North Zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abbas Ahsan said on Saturday that the NH&MP N-5 North Zone has launched a drive to make fire extinguishers and first aid boxes available in public service vehicles (PSV) for the safety of passengers and road users.

The prime objective of this road safety drive is to ensure timely and prompt response by drivers in case a vehicle caught fire after a road accident before the arrival of emergency services. The DIG said that this drive would also inculcate a sense of safety amongst the passengers and road users traveling on national highways.

The DIG further said that strict action would be taken against unauthorised/illegal number plates on vehicles, while action would also be taken against the installation of police emergency lights in private vehicles.

Moreover, DIG Abbas said that well trained and special briefing officers have been deputed on all toll plazas of N-5 north zone to brief and train drivers regarding proper use of fire extinguishers and first aid box to avoid casualties.

He said that Mobile Education Units (MEUs) of N-5 North Zone would also visit the PSV terminals to directly interact with drivers in an effort to educate them regarding the importance of practicing road safety.
