Khushal Riaz qualifies for Doha Squash Championship final

 

 

Emerging squash player Khushal Riaz Khan qualified for the final of the prestigious Doha Junior Squash Championship at Doha, capital of Qatar. A brilliant student of Peshawar Model School Boys-II, and an excellent Squash player of the under-15 category, has performed outstandingly in Doha Junior Open Squash Championship. In first round of the tournament Khushal defeated Abbas Nawaz by 3-1 with 11-4, 11-8, 4-11 and 11-8 and qualified for quarter finals of the tournament.

In quarters he faced Qatar No. 1 Tarek Essam Ouda but Khushal Riaz won this match by 3-0 with 11-4, 11-8, 11-8 and reached semi-finals of Doha Open. Khushal played semi-final against Ali Sher and won the match by 3-1 with 11-4, 8-11, 11-3, 11-8 and qualified for the final of this championship.

He is going to face Asad Ullah in the final of Doha Junior Squash Championship. Both Khushal and Asad had played final of Japan Junior Open Squash Championship 2017 at Yokohama, Japan this year. Khushal attributed his success to prayers of his parents and the tough training with senior coach and former World No. 12 Amjad Khan who gave him special training sessions due to Malaysian tour of his coach Zahir Shah.

It is worth mentioning that earlier Zahir Shah worked hard to prepare him for Japan Junior Open. Khushal also lauded the principal and administration of his school for allowing him to earn a good name for Pakistan in the field of squash. Khushal expressed the optimism to represent Pakistan in the US Junior Open and British Junior Open in future to bring Pakistan’s glory back in squash.
