Karachi witnesses 154 chikungunya cases in September

KARACHI: At least 241 suspected cases have been reported throughout Sindh province from September 01 to date; out of these 241 cases, 154 emerged from Karachi alone.

Sindh Health Department released a report which stated that a total 4,329 chikungunya suspected cases surfaced in the province, out of which 3, 462  were from Karachi while rest of the cases surfaced in Tharparkar/Mithi, Sanghar and Umerkot.

Out of total 3,462 in Karachi, 1740 cases were reported in District Malir, 156 in District Central, 180 in District South, 1210 in District West, 165 in District East and 11 in District Korangi.

Chikungunya is transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes. The major symptoms include high fever, joint pain, joint swelling, rash, headache, muscle pain, nausea and fatigue. Chikungunya is rarely fatal, and the death rate of the disease-affected people is less than one per cent.
