KP CM says peace in Afghanistan essential for regional peace

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak said on Saturday that peace in Afghanistan is essentially required to ensure durable peace in the entire region.

The CM made these remarks while addressing a 180-member delegation of students and faculty members belonging to different universities of Balochistan at Peshawar CM House. Advisor to the chief minister on Higher Education Mushtaq Ghani, Member of KP Assembly Shaukat Yousafzai and other officials also attended the meeting.

Talking on the occasion, the CM said that the international forces have to set aside their political motives in order to find out a permanent solution to the Afghan conflict. He added that the soil of Afghanistan was used by the international forces for their own gains and after that Afghanistan was left in the lurch, thus, allowing terrorists to regroup.

“The constant waves of terrorism coming from Afghanistan have caused huge physical and material losses to the country,” he said, while alleging that “the international forces should stop funding the extremists and terrorists organisations in the region.”

The chief minister also praised the inter-provincial study tours and said that it provided a unique opportunity to the youth belonging to different provinces to learn from each other. He said that his government had pinned their hopes in the youth for the better future of the country, adding that substandard education system was the root cause of all the ills prevalent in our society.

He called upon the educated youth of Balochistan to make their rulers realise the importance of education in their province which was the key to progress. Moreover, Khattak said that the country lagged far behind the world in terms of education, especially the provinces of KP and Balochistan. He further said that the future prosperity of both these provinces, in terms of education and development, was directly linked to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

While answering a query regarding the attack on Army Public School Peshawar, the CM said that though it was a sad incident, it still managed to unite the entire country and the security forces to act decisively against terrorism. Later, the CM also informed the members of the delegation that the KP government was developing a network of technical training centres throughout the province to produce a thoroughly skilled workforce.
