ISLAMABAD: Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over two Pakistani prisoners, Mazhar Iqbal and Tabarak Hussain to Pakistan Rangers at Wagah border on Thursday.

Officials of the Pakistan High Commission were also present on the occasion.

On July 10, Pakistan Rangers handed over 78 Indian prisoners, mostly fishermen, to the BSF at the Wagah Border after they were released from a jail in Karachi.

Earlier, the Foreign Office spokesman said that Pakistan had handed over a list of 546 Indian prisoners to the High Commission of India.

According to a section of the India-Pakistan Joint Statement, May 2008 – pertaining to the consular access agreement – both the countries must exchange lists of the prisoners twice in a year, he said in a statement.

The agreement required both countries to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody twice a year, on January 1 and July 1, respectively.
