ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that all opposition parties should unite and develop consensus in making important decisions.

Responding to the questions from the media regarding efforts for changing the opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA), Shujaat said that this decision had to be taken by the Parliament. He said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmud Qureshi, and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had contacted him in this regard.

He also said that if the PTI wanted to change the opposition leader in the NA, it will have to come forward with concrete reasons. He added that consultations were necessary prior to making any decision.

Shujaat said that Sheikh Rasheed’s name was proposed for the opposition leader earlier, and they were ready to support him then and are ready to support him now. But, he alleged, even his nomination was decided without consultation and Jamaat-e-Islami was also of the view that announcement of the nomination of Rasheed should have been done through consultation.
